What is the difference between a first-year and transfer student orientation?

First-year orientation is for students who never attended any college before. Transfer orientation is for students who have previously attended another college or university and is new to PBSC.

Am I required to attend an orientation?

If you are pursuing an associate’s degree (AA or AS) or College Credit Certificate (CCC), you are expected to attend an orientation. Students who are pursuing a Career Certificate Program (CCP) should attend the information session of their program. Current dual enrollment and non-degree seeking students are NOT required to attend any orientation.

What is the importance of attending an orientation?

During the orientation you will have the opportunity to speak with your first semester advisor, get your first semester of classes, learn about campus resources and discuss the necessary next steps based on your identified academic pathway. 

What onboarding items should I complete before attending the orientation?

If you haven’t already, please complete the following “My Tasks” action items in your Workday inbox:

• Bookstore and Financial Aid Authorizations
• Annual Review of Loan History
• Review College Policies and Procedures
• Tax Form Delivery Preference
• To Do: Sign Up for Direct Deposit
• Review State Required Information
• To Do: Add My Intended Institution and Program of Study
• To Do: Update my Race and Ethnicity

What is the “Pay Less Fees!” form in my Workday inbox?

The questionnaire is your application to get in-state tuition. Please complete the form, provide the necessary documents, and contact the Admissions office to process it by clicking here.

Am I required to take a placement test?

Placement tests help determine the level of courses you register for. All non-exempt students are required to take a test or submit valid ACT/SAT/CLT test scores. Please review our placement testing guidelines to see if you are required to take the PERT, Accuplacer, or TABE exam: https://www.palmbeachstate.edu/testing/placement-testing.aspx
